Il “Pantheon” di Parigi è situato nel cuore del Quartiere Latino, in cima alla Montagna di “Sainte Geneviève“. Per questa sua posizione strategica lo vedrete anche da lontano. La costruzione ebbe inizio nel 1757 ad opera dell’architetto Jacques Germai Soufflot su commissione di Luigi XV. Durante la Rivoluzione si decise di trasformare la chiesa in “Pantheon”. Vennero perciò murate le finestre (circa 42) in modo tale da far assumere all’edificio un aspetto esternamente freddo e internamente tetro. L’architettura del “Pantheon” sottolinea un chiaro ritorno al classico. Il pronao, sostenuto da ventidue colonne corinzie, toglie la vista della cupola che sembra, così, sospesa nel vuoto. L’iscrizione “Ai grandi uomini, la patria riconoscente”, sul frontone triangolare, e la rappresentazione degli illustri Mirabeau, Voltaire, Rousseau, Napoleone ed i suoi generali, allude alla storia della nazione. Nel “Pantheon” riposano le spoglie degli scrittori Victor Hugo e Emile Zola.
